Will Itunes Automatically Upload a New Soundcloud Podcast
Read This Earlier Uploading Your Podcasts Using Soundcloud
An easy guide for fixing basic errors and making a no-hassle submission.
Few things are more frustrating than trying to upload your podcast for the first time on the various podcasting platforms and coming across problem later on problem.
When I recorded the trailer and first episode of my podcast, A Story Of Sorts, I hadn't all the same made whatever research in regards to uploading the podcast. A novice's mistake, of class, since I've quickly learned that iTunes can have up to 10 days after submission to accept a podcast, and I had already a premiere date fix less than a week abroad, which I had included on the podcast'south trailer.
You need to ship a submission request for your podcast, and any provider, either it'southward iTunes, Spotify, Stitcher, or Google Play, volition take a few days to accept this request.
Before you get-go uploading a podcast to whatever platform, you demand an audio host, somewhere to upload all of the episodes, so that iTunes (or whatever other provider), can automatically update your feed as each new episode gets released. Yous can't upload sound files directly to the provider.
After some enquiry, I decided to use Soundcloud as the audio host for my podcast. This, because I already had an account there, and I am quite familiar with the platform, which will save me some time while navigating the site. What'due south most important, Soundcloud offers upward to 3h of free audio uploads a month with their basic account. On top of that, from my enquiry, it is still the cheapest pick for premium accounts, at around $12/calendar month.
While trying to submit the podcast to the providers, I encountered a few bumps on the road, and it took me a scrap of inquiry to figure out what I was doing incorrect. Here'due south how to solve those errors (spoiler: information technology'southward easy-peasy).
- After having edited the trailer (or the offset episode, if you're skipping the trailer) upload it to Soundcloud. Annotation that every audio file y'all upload to your SoundCloud business relationship will testify up as an episode on your podcast, so you will want to create an account exclusively for this. (I record and edit all my files with Brazenness, which is very like shooting fish in a barrel to use, and free.)
- Make sure that the contour picture show yous're using on Soundcloud is the one y'all desire to use for the podcast. Any you use on Soundcloud as profile image will automatically exist uploaded to the podcast provider. This prototype has to exist at least 1400 x 1400px, otherwise iTunes will not have information technology, and you lot won't be able to go frontward when you endeavour to submit your podcast to them. I used https://resizeimage.net/ to resize my photo.
- To fill up in the rest of the submission guidelines yous need to tick a few boxes which aren't automatically ticked, and here are a few images to guide y'all.
- Get to your Soundcloud profile and select Edit the episode (make sure it's set to public). On Edit go to Permissions and make sure you tick Include In RSS Feed. You'll have to do this every time for each episode, otherwise, the podcast provider will say you don't have any episodes on your feed.
- On your profile folio click the iii dots on the upper right corner and go to Settings. Click in Content. There you'll need to tick the box that says Include In RSS Feed and y'all'll have to make sure that you have your e-mail on the e-mail address displayed field. If you don't, the provider volition claim they can't accept a general e-mail from a host (in this instance, Soundcloud) and that they demand a personal e-mail in order to let submission. (It doesn't matter if you use different electronic mail accounts for your provider and for Soundcloud — I practice.)
- Brand certain y'all choose a category for your weblog as well, or iTunes will stop you from submitting until you exercise.
In conclusion: tick the Include In RSS Feed box, add your east-post address displayed, and choose a category (all in Settings>Content), and each time you upload an episode tick Include In RSS Feed box on Edit>Permissions, and you should have everything you need to be able to submit!
